Lachie Weller says Fremantle would be "pretty silly" not to accept a "really good" deal from the Suns before Thursday's looming trade deadline.
Weller's bombshell request has rocked the Dockers after they recently tried to secure him on a four-year contract extension.
The 21-year-old is already tied to the club for 2018 but has realised he doesn't want to live in Perth long-term, while his girlfriend is also keen to move back to Queensland.
Weller said it would be "pretty tough" playing out a final season at Freo if a trade falls through.
"That's why I really want to get it done now," Weller told NAB AFL Trade Radio.
"But I suppose if it doesn't happen I'll just play out my 12 months and move straight back."
The Dockers have demanded pick No.2 from Gold Coast for one of their brightest emerging stars, insisting they will hold Weller to his contract if the Suns won't part with the prized selection.
"I feel like for both teams it's logic to get the deal done now," Weller said.
"I think there's a really good deal they've (the Suns) offered Fremantle already and I think it's pretty silly that they don't take it.
"Gold Coast are really keen and they've given me a pretty good word that they'll get it done."
Weller admitted making the call to Ross Lyon was difficult, with the Fremantle coach attempting to persuade the highly rated youngster to stay.
"He gave his thoughts. On the field I feel comfortable there, but it's more outside of football," Weller said.
"It's me, it's my girlfriend and there's a lot more to life than football and that's what's been the challenge for us and we've decided we want to go back.
"It was a pretty tough call. He was pretty supportive of it all.
"If things happen we'll just move on.
"If it doesn't happen this year I'll play out next year and he said he won't hold any grudges.
"It went pretty well."
Weller has also previously been chased by St Kilda, which was keen to reunite the former No.13 draft pick with his brother Maverick, while their parents live in Melbourne for business reasons.
But Weller said the family, originally from Tasmania, sees the Gold Coast as home.
He is determined to get back to Queensland and sees a bright future at the Suns after meeting with new coach Stuart Dew, CEO Mark Evans and co-captains Tom Lynch and Steven May.
"I've looked through the list and I think there's some really talented youngsters coming through," Weller said.
"They're led really well and they have the right people at the top to guide us in the right direction and a new facility.
"There's so much opportunity up here for the game to grow and it would be great to be part of."
