Daniel Howe, one of the 10 new players North Melbourne added to its list during the 2022 trade and draft period, says he's enjoyed his first few weeks in a fresh setting.

After being selected with pick No.31 in the 2014 National Draft, the former Hawk made 96 appearances in the brown and gold but was delisted at the end of the 2022 season as Hawthorn turned to its youth.

He was provided with a Kangaroos lifeline in the 2022 Rookie Draft, however, and is now happily becoming familiar with his new home.

"I've been at Hawthorn for eight years and coming to a new club and a new environment has been very exciting," Howe told North Media.

"(The) first day felt like the first day of school, learning names, learning the new place, so overall it's been a great change."

Joining North Melbourne has seen Howe reunite with senior coach Alastair Clarkson after the pair spent seven years together at Hawthorn.

The midfielder mentioned Clarkson was keen to get him down to Arden Street and provided his thoughts on what he believes it's going to be like playing for him again, but in alternate colours.

"I think he (Clarkson) brings a relentless attitude," Howe said.

"He's going to leave no stone unturned with how he prepares the players and the club, so (I'm) expecting to be in a really organised team and a bit of stability will be nice for North."

Howe isn’t the only former Hawk calling Arden Street their new home. Under the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period rule, three-time premiership player Liam Shiels also became a Kangaroo.

"He's one of the great teammates you'll ever find – he's so reliable. No matter what job you give him, he'll do the job," said Howe on Shiels.

"The boys have been very welcoming, but yeah, it's nice to have a friend (come with me from Hawthorn).

"He's next to me in the locker room as well which is very nice."
