North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos captain Emma Kearney believes her side has what it takes to knock off one of the AFLW's upper-echelon teams.
Although the Kangaroos are yet to claim ultimate premiership glory, they have featured in every finals series since 2020 and will have a massive opportunity to reach a maiden Grand Final when they challenge the Demons in a preliminary final.
Saturday will see the clubs meet for a second time in Season 7 after Melbourne claimed the four points in dramatic fashion back in Round 2.
Despite that late two-point loss at the MCG, Kearney said the performance the side gave fills them with plenty of confidence heading into this weekend.
"The biggest thing for us coming from that game was the ability to match it with those big three clubs, Melbourne being one of them," she told reporters.
"In previous seasons we've really doubted our ability to match it with them, but I reckon that (Round 2) gave us belief.
"We've seen enormous growth in our players since Round 2. Vikki Wall was just playing her second game, Taylah Gatt, Bella Eddey and Tess Craven were all inexperienced players but now (they) have a bit more experience in this finals campaign which should be good for them.
"I think, given our list changes, we feel like we've added a different dynamic into our forward line in particular, and getting more experience into our younger players has put us in a really good position to be able to mix it with the best (sides)."
In their journey to second on the ladder, Melbourne have shown a strong ability to score in a flurry which Kearney has flagged as something the Roos will need to be weary of.
"Highlighting when they have the momentum and being able to that down a little bit will really help us," she said.
"But we've got a really good team defence and we've been able to limit scoring as much as possible, so we're gonna have to be at our best to stop them."
