North Melbourne will have a near-full squad to choose from when it takes on Richmond this weekend.

Returning to familiar territory at Etihad Stadium, the Roos will take on the Tigers with only Nathan Grima (back), Aaron Mullett (shoulder) and Lachie Hansen (hips) unavailable for selection.

Director of Football Geoff Walsh said Hansen was hopeful of lining up in the season-opener against the Crows.

“Lachie has really stepped up his intensity and volume at training in a bid to be fit for our trip to Adelaide in Round 1,” Walsh told NMFC.com.au.

Walsh said he anticipated Saturday’s NAB Challenge clash would be a competitive clash, with both teams to use the match as a final tune-up before the season.

“With the season just around the corner, all players will be keen to put in a strong showing, particularly with the natural competitive spirit that claiming a spot in the Round 1 team creates."

Senior Coach Brad Scott has so far called on 35 players in the club’s first two pre-season encounters and will name another squad of 26 on Thursday, before naming a final 24 on Saturday.

Injury list:
Lachie Hansen – Hips – 2 weeks
Nathan Grima – Back – 9-11 weeks
Aaron Mullett – Shoulder – 9 weeks
