SOUTH Australian teenager Jack Trengove has firmed as a top-two selection ahead of November’s NAB AFL Draft after a standout showing at the state screening session.

Trengove, 18, missed last month’s NAB AFL Draft Camp in Canberra to prepare for Sturt’s SANFL grand final clash with Central District.

But he made up for lost time over the weekend, finishing in the top two per cent nationally in both the 20m sprint and beep tests.

Trengove’s beep test score of 15.3 was just short of his personal best mark (15.4) set during pre-season.

Saturday’s state screening session also marked what could prove to be another significant moment in the midfielder’s journey to the AFL - his first meeting with Melbourne, the holder of the first two picks in next month’s draft.

The Dees are believed to be keen on both Trengove and injured Vic Metro captain Tom Scully, with some suggesting the former’s test results have seen him edge ahead in calculations.

Trengove, who grew up near Naracoorte in South Australia’s southeast, said he had no qualms about going interstate to realise his dream of playing AFL football.

"I’ve had a couple of chats with different clubs, but I’ve tried to keep it low key because I can’t control any of that," Trengove told afl.com.au.

"All year I’ve just worked on going out, playing my best footy and trying to do the team things. I’ve done everything that I can control to the best of my ability, but now it’s out of my hands.

"It’s up to the clubs to pick whoever they want. I don’t really mind.

"My dream is just to get my name called out on draft day and whichever club calls it…I really don’t mind."
