Upstream without a waddle
When interim CEO Cam Vale pounds the pavement for the upcoming 50 kilometre Upstream Challenge, he’ll have some Shinboners on his side.
“We’ve thrown a team together for the walk and of course, we named ourselves the ‘Shinboners’,” Vale explained.
In its eighth year, the walk raises money for various charities including Camp Quality, Disability Sport & Recreation and the Entrust Foundation.
“The organisers share the donations with different organisations each year so it’s a great event and one I’m really proud to be involved with.”
With more than a million dollars raised in its time, Vale is now urging more North people to get involved and join in.
“It’s a pretty decent trek from Docklands out to Donvale but there’s no hills which is good. I’d love to see some Kangaroos fans in the royal blue and white out there with me or even making donations to our team on the website.”
With the North players in Utah for the walk/run which takes place on Saturday 17th of November, Vale hopes the members and supporters will answer his call and help out a great friend of the club. He’s already enlisted the support of some staff including GM Sales and Sponsorship Adam Aiello.
“The walk was started by Gordon Hoen, a North Melbourne match committee member and someone who has poured a lot of his own money into our club over the years. He’s been to Utah twice and this is about getting behind not only him, but raising some much needed funds for some people who really need it.”
Anyone interested in joining Vale must sign up soon at www.upstreamfoundation.org or risks missing out. Donations can also be made at the same website address.
