North is likely to play a match on Good Friday in 2017 and David Schwarz says no club is more deserving of the historic fixture.

“They were the pioneers of Friday night footy, which they lost a lot of … they are one side that doesn’t have a big game on the calendar,” Schwarz told SEN Breakfast on Monday.

“Why not North Melbourne? They’ve obviously been pushing that barrow with the AFL. I would love to see a game on Good Friday.”

The Herald Sun reported the Roos are likely to line up against the Bulldogs for the expected blockbuster.

“I think it will be the most viewed game of any home-and-away game for the year, other than Anzac Day,” Schwarz added.

“It’s a day now that’s used by everybody, so it should be inclusive.

“I think it’s a great move. It should have happened many, many, many years ago.”

The idea was first mooted by North powerbrokers in 1992 and since then, the club has been actively campaigning to take centre stage on the day.

The clash is likely to be played at about 4pm tying in with the Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal.

“It (the game) will happen at Etihad, the Good Friday Appeal is pretty much held at Etihad and the Royal Children’s… I think they can all work in well together. I think it’s a no-brainer. I think the donations will increase.”
