At the end of each season, there is the obligatory discussion about who could take “Charlie” home. Footy fans stretch their memories back to games played several months prior in an effort to identify their club’s best chance at winning the coveted award.

This year NMFC.com.au is asking for your help to determine the three best players from each game and you can vote in the Mazda Spirit Awards for your best three Kangaroos.

Here is the case for each of the players in the running for the votes from North’s loss at the MCG on Saturday, in alphabetical order. We’ll pick our 3-2-1, then you can have your say.

Sam Gibson – NMFC

It was another consistent performance from Gibson; his 21 disposals, six marks and two goals meant he finished the match as one of the Roos’ best.

Brad Hill – Hawthorn

Hill had a season-high 21 kicks in his 28 disposals, sending the ball inside 50 on six occasions – the equal-most by any player.

Sam Mitchell – Hawthorn

The Hawks veteran tallied a game-high 37 disposals, 30 of them uncontested as he was able to find space at will.

Drew Petrie – NMFC

With one less tall forward than normal, more weight fell on the shoulders of Petrie and he delivered with a three-goal, 13-disposal effort.

Isaac Smith – Hawthorn

Smith’s ability to break the lines was evident on Saturday. His 33 disposals and 11 marks often came in space, and he also chipped in with seven tackles.

Robbie Tarrant – NMFC

Although Tarrant was on the losing side, he was immense down back. Described as ‘a rock’ by Brad Scott, the defender’s efforts were herculean considering the weight of numbers.
