North Melbourne Academy participants must meet the following age criteria:​

  • Generational Roos: Children (all ages) of any past North Melbourne player
  • Junior Roos supported by Werribee Football Club: Boys & girls aged 13 and under
  • Rising Roos: Boys & girls aged 14-16​
  • Emerging Roos: Boys & girls aged 16-19
  • Elite Roos: Boys & girls aged 16-19

To qualify as an NGA athlete:​

  • Male players must identify as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and/or Multicultural (participant born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas) and reside in the council areas below.
  • Any female player who is from Tasmania. ​

​Non-NGA eligible athletes are all other players. ​

NGA-eligible players must live in the following council areas:​

  • City of Melbourne (Kensington, Flemington, North Melbourne, Parkville, Carlton, West Melbourne, Docklands)
  • City of Wyndham (Wyndham Vale, Williams Landing, Werribee South, Werribee, Truganina, Tarneit, Quandong, Point Cook, Mount Cottrell, Manor Lakes, Mambourin, Little River, Laverton North, Laverton, Hoppers Crossing, Eynesbury, Cocoroc, Seabrook, Sanctuary Lakes)​
  • Tasmania​
