They say ‘a picture says a thousand words’ and this year North Melbourne’s Instagram page told the story of the all the highs and lows.

In chronological order:

Scott Thompson BBQ’ing

As part of the club’s ‘Target 10,000’ membership promotion, Scott Thompson offered a free BBQ to anyone who could sign up more new members than him. He even went to the trouble of making his own invitations.

Fans on Instagram got to see Thompson’s best pose as he cooked a BBQ for the NMFC.com.au cameras.

Players’ Golf Day

With a nine day break before the Round 9 game at Etihad Stadium, the players were afforded a rare day off and took advantage by organising a golf day.

Some of the outfits were questionable, but they certainly got the North Melbourne supporters talking.

Phil Krakouer

In a celebration of Indigenous Round, Phil and Jim Krakouer were invited to Aegis Park by Lindsay Thomas to speak to the playing list.

Their speech was emotional and heartfelt and Phil’s proudest moment was when his grandson Lincoln met his hero Majak Daw.

Milestone men

The Round 10 game against St Kilda saw two champions of the club enjoy milestones, with Brent Harvey playing his 350th game and Daniel Wells his 200th.

The players responded in style, belting the Saints to the tune of 68 points.

Friday night at Etihad, Part 1

While the club’s first Friday night game at Etihad for the season had a disappointing result against the Blues, the turnout from the supporters was extremely impressive.

Friday night at Etihad, Part 2

Just a fortnight later everyone went home much happier. In arguably the win of the season, North defeated Geelong by 10 points in a high quality encounter.

Inside the huddle

A feature on Instagram throughout the year was the up close and personal shots. This one is from the three quarter-time huddle against Essendon in Round 21.

Thanks in large part to a Daniel Wells special, North was leading by 40 points and cruising to victory.

Surgery awaits

Unfortunately for Majak Daw, his season ended early due to a troublesome knee. However he was still in good spirits before surgery.

Preparation

Some players like their quiet time in the lead-up to a game, while others listen to their own tunes. Todd Goldstein falls into the latter category, as this candid snap before Round 22 illustrates.

All over?

North’s finals ambitions were temporarily derailed after its penultimate round loss to Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium. Walking out from the game, it gave this family time to reflect on what could have been.

Ziebell shines

After a brief moment of hope, North entered its Round 23 clash with Collingwood knowing finals were out of the equation.

It didn’t stop the home of football turning on a beautiful day.

One more time

For the final time in 2013, North Melbourne walked up the race to enter the ground, finishing the season with a win over the Pies.
