Andrew Swallow looks likely to travel to Perth this week despite injuring his right knee in the final quarter of North Melbourne’s win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

Director of Medical Services Steve Saunders said the Kangaroos captain is progressing well and will hopefully lead the team out against West Coast on Friday night.

“Andrew has presented very well today, he had his scan this afternoon and all the major ligaments look really good and sound,” Saunders told NMFC.com.au.

“He has very little swelling and a high level of function. Andrew is a very good chance to be cleared to be available to play this week.”

Saunders added the 25-year old midfielder will be put on a modified program throughout the week.

Young defender Aaron Mullett is also a strong chance to play after being subbed out with a left ankle sprain.

“Aaron’s still a little bit sore but he’s come a long way in 24 hours so we’re hopeful he’ll be available as well.

“He copped a kick to the knee and he twisted his ankle as he landed, spraining the ligament in his left foot. He’ll be heavily modified for the next couple of days and we’ll give him a test on Thursday, but he’s tracking well.”

North defender Nathan Grima missed the clash against the Bulldogs with general soreness but is likely to return.

“Nathan Grima is doing very well and will be available this weekend,” Saunders said.

Taylor Hine was a late withdrawal on Saturday with ankle soreness but Saunders says the 21-year old will also be available.

“Taylor looks very good, he was very close to playing last week. He’s done more agility and running work today so we expect him to complete main skills tomorrow.”

Robbie Tarrant will miss a fifth consecutive week with the forward’s lower leg healing slower than expected.

“Robbie had a contusion to the lower leg that’s caused a neuropraxia, which is a badly bruised nerve. When you bruise a nerve it can take time because they are slow to heal,” Saunders said.

“It’s probably going to be another two to three weeks before he’s available to play.”
