North CEO Carl Dilena says that, while a fourth game in Hobart is a potential option for North Melbourne to consider, no decision has been made.
“It is simply an idea that has been raised for the club’s consideration. We are conducting normal due diligence on the potential merits of the concept, but there is no formal proposal to consider at this point” Dilena told North Media on Monday.
“We appreciate that playing home games outside of Victoria is a sensitive matter for our members and we recognise the need to strike an appropriate balance between growing our supporter base and looking after our loyal, existing members.
“Any proposal to add a further game in Hobart would have to work for all involved, particularly our existing members.”
Dilena said regardless, it’s critical the club continues to explore ways to expand.
“Continued growth in our club supporter base, which is one of the lowest in the AFL, is vital for our long-term future.
“Tasmania, unlike other historic ventures in non-traditional football locations, has proved beneficial for our membership growth in recent years.
“That growth follows the success Hawthorn, which plays four games in Launceston, has had for many years. That model has helped them become a strong and successful club.”
Dilena said all feedback would be welcomed.
“We are considering all views from members and stakeholders as we consider the best option for the club.”
