Roosters' sweet revenge
For the second time this season North Melbourne's VFL aligned teams battled in a fierce competition.
The Rooster's determination paid off and they got their revenge with a 17-point win at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.
Several Kangaroos stood out in the tough, windy conditions and North's development coaches assessed their performances for NMFC.com.au.
Josh Drummond (North Ballarat)
Luke Delaney (12 possessions, 5 marks, 7 one-percenters)
"Luke's been in terrific form. Cam (Delaney) went up to play senior footy today and he deserved his opportunity but Luke just as equally as his brother deserves his opportunity and is hopefully playing his way into a senior game sometime this year. He's been playing at an AFL standard at VFL level for probably the last three months, he continues to tick the right boxes and he's in some really good form and without him I don't know where we'd be.
"He took a brilliant grab in the dying couple of minutes of the game when other defenders would probably have spoiled it through, but he backed himself in...it just shows the confidence in his game and his ability.
"Hopefully with the weight of his good performances, his chance will come up sometime soon."
Ben Jacobs (23 possessions)
"Ben was solid again...he's finding really good mix in his game between uncontested and contested footy. His work in defensive transitions has really improved, he continues to take steps to put pressure on the senior team."
Liam Anthony (30 possessions)
"Liam went well, unfortunately he was off for part of the game with a sore shoulder but came back and gave us some impact late in the game when we needed it."
Taylor Garner (17 possessions, 1 goal)
"I thought things really came together for Taylor, especially in the last two or three quarters. He doesn't need to have huge numbers to have an impact, when he's around the ball his effort and his intensity stands out."
Cameron Richardson (11 possessions, 1 goal)
"I thought Richo's intensity was right up today, I thought he moved really well and created some really valuable contests for us."
Mitchell Wilkins (14 possessions)
"It was the first time this year he's backed up a good performance the week before with another really good effort. His intensity, aggression and his tackling were all really good and when he gets that right the rest of it takes care of itself. I was really pleased."
John Lamont (Werribee)
Majak Daw (17 hit outs, 16 possessions, 2 goals)
"Majak looked dangerous at times as a forward but Ben Mabon took the points in the ruck. He kicked a couple of goals and I felt he probably should have got paid two or three free kicks.
"Majak was most effective up forward today more so than in the ruck, but Luke Delaney played a good game on him, no doubt about that."
Daniel Currie (22 hit outs, 11 possessions)
"Daniel wasn't at his best today and didn't have enough influence when he played forward like he would have liked. He's still working his way back after missing a couple of games though."
Levi Greenwood (20 possessions) and Jordan Gysberts (19 possessions)
"Levi, I thought, was one of our better players, he was in there having a crack and put his head down and worked really hard all day. Jordan was a bit the same, pretty steady and solid with his work-rate."
Tim McGenniss (18 possessions)
"Tim McGenniss was extremely solid early in the game but went missing later on."
Scott McMahon (10 possessions)
"Scott McMahon worked hard but needed a bit more impact in defence."
Ayden Kennedy (9 possessions)
"Ayden was a bit limited in his influence, was moved up forward for part of the game as well and probably didn't get continuity in his game."
Kieran Harper (12 possessions)
"Kieran started well and had a great opening quarter but drifted out of the game."
