North Melbourne livewire Jed Anderson is pushing his case for a return to the senior side after another solid performance in the VFL.
Anderson collected 20 disposals and kicked a goal in Werribee’s 51-point loss to Footscray on Saturday night.
North’s number three again spent plenty of time in the midfield, lining up against Bulldog Caleb Daniel.
Anderson said he was disappointed Werribee was unable to make the most of their opportunities.
“It was a really hard and contested ball game,” Anderson said.
“We worked well in the first half and especially our third quarter we got back in the game, but didn’t just finish off and convert our shots once again.”
Speaking on his own game, the 23-year-old said he was pleased to be able to put a series of back-to-back games together after an injury interupted pre-season.
“It’s been good, (I have been able to play) five or six games back now, I’m getting more and more confident each week.
“The body is holding up which is good and I’m getting that continutinty which I need and playing some good footy.”
Anderson was listed as an emergency for North’s round five encounter with Fremantle, giving him an indication he was “pretty close” to a senior recall.
“I’m happy with the game I’m playing and the coaches are happy with what I’m doing in close, and getting on the outside and moving the ball forward through the middle.
“I’ve just got to keep working on it and keep pushing for my spot,” Anderson added.
Meanwhile, teammate Declan Watson made his VFL debut this week and Anderson was pleased to see the defender take to the field.
“He was good down back, held us steady down there and impacted well and used the ball really efficiently. I think he was pretty excited to play out there today,” Anderson said.
And Anderson had plenty of praise for Ryan Clarke, who was among North’s best on Saturday night.
“He was good around the stoppages and worked hard forward and got on to a couple. He’s always pushing hard forward, getting in and getting his own ball and getting on the outside which was good.”
