After a scolding at the hands of the Suns on Saturday night, David Noble issued North Melbourne supporters with a message.
“Our fans need to know we want to win games. We’re annoyed and disappointed in the way we presented tonight,” Noble said after the loss.
“We’re not just here to take 12 months to develop … it’ll be made pretty clear that what was delivered tonight is not on.
“You’ve just got to hang in, you’ve just got to fight and you’ve got to defend like crazy, and at times we didn’t do that well enough.”
Noble says while the development of young players is the main goal this season, there are still standards to maintain as a football club.
With the likes of Trent Dumont, Ben Cunnington, Robbie Tarrant and Luke McDonald absent through injury, the Roos lacked experience when it mattered.
“We’ve got some good soldiers coming back … in the next few weeks we hope we’ll be able to put a bit more rigour around those young ones we’ve got that are learning the caper really well as we go,” he said.
“We’ll be able to add some more support for those guys, particularly in the middle, so that’s a really good sign for us going forward.
“I think the experience for guys like (Tom) Powell, (Charlie) Lazzaro and (Jack) Mahony … is going to be invaluable.”
With Round 2 in the books, it’s time to look forward to the Good Friday clash with the Dogs.
“I know we didn’t have a win tonight but we want our fans to come next week,” he said.
“We’ll try to wrap up our review … first thing in the morning and we need to start getting ourselves ready for next week.
“There were little glimpses again through the night as to what our members can look forward to going forward … we just have to keep learning and chipping away as we go.”
