Momentum is the key word for the rest of the season, according to newly minted AFLW Rising Star nominee Daisy Bateman.
Starring in last Friday’s 35-point demolition of Richmond, Bateman kicked two goals and racked up 14 disposals.
The small-forward said despite receiving the nomination later than most, it’s still a welcome recognition.
“I’m 21 and most people get nominated when they’re 18 … I feel like a bit of a fossil amongst the 18 year olds, but it’s better late than never,” Bateman told North Media.
“It’s my third year in the competition now, so it’s nice to be acknowledged … it’s good to be playing well when the team is playing well.”

With two wins in the past two weeks, North has rocketed back into the finals race.
Bateman said a few tweaks to the team’s game plan have enabled them to turn their results around.
“Our team focuses in the last couple of weeks have been momentum and ball movement,” she said.
“The likes of Emma Kearney and Jas Garner are looking out wide which has been helping our forwards get a bit of space.
“It all helps when we trust each other to get the job done.”
Despite her nomination, Bateman says she is still looking to improve all aspects of her game, as she seeks more playing time on the wing.
“I’m learning that role a bit more now so getting a few more touches would be great,” she said.
“Over the last couple of years it has become evident to me that if you push your fitness then you’re going to get rewarded.
“I want to step up my defensive pressure as well. That’s been one of my weaknesses over the last couple of years.”
