North Melbourne's VFLW side made history on Sunday afternoon at Arden Street, winning its first ever game.
The Roos' AFLW stars were in attendance to witness a big win over the Bulldogs, with the margin 21 points at the final siren.
AFLW-listed players Alice O’Loughlin, Beth Lynch and Katelyn Cox were amongst the best for the victors.
“One of the key focuses we’ve been trying to grow over the past month has been our identity and connection. It is important to work out what we want to stand for, and what we can control,” coach Cheyne Webster told North Media.
“We have a development focus, but we also want to win games, and clearly we will gain confidence from this particular win.
“It’s about growing as individuals, and growing as a collective. We are trying to find the next group of girls that can push for AFLW list spots.”
O’Loughlin and Lynch have both impressed at VFLW level, but been victims of circumstance, due to the strong form of North's AFLW side.
The former finished with three goals, to go with 23 disposals, as she pushes for a call-up, while Lynch had an impressive 18 disposals, to go with her seven tackles.
“I thought Alice and Beth both showed what they are capable of and will certainly put their hands up for AFLW selection,” Webster said.
VFLW-listed players Meagan Kiely, Molly Eastman and Lexi Hamilton all impressed in North’s first win.
“Meagan Kiely our captain was really strong and Lexi Hamilton who came down from Canberra was fantastic,” Webster said.
In Webster’s first season coaching a senior women’s side, he's loving the experience.
“It will be a challenge for me, but also presents a big opportunity to coach some really talented players.” he added.
“I want to find my way and coach my way, while continuing to learn from great people at the football club.
“To get that opportunity is something I’m incredibly proud of.”
