Georgia Hammond has praised the support of her friends, teammates and family in the lead-up to her AFLW debut on Friday night.
North won the clash 67-32 and looked unstoppable at times, but Hammond’s inclusion was clearly the most exciting story from the game.
Making her debut at 28, she lined up at full-forward and achieved a long-standing dream when she kicked her first AFLW goal in the fourth quarter.
“There were nerves pumping through me when I was lining up for my first ever goal,” Hammond told North Media.
“To have everyone run over to me was a very special feeling.
“Hopefully I did enough to cement a spot in the side for next week … if not I’ll keep working hard to get back in.”
Before the game, Hammond received video messages from close friend and former teammate Mel Hickey, and current North Melbourne coach Anthony Rocca.
Hammond says the message from Rocca was a welcome surprise, as he was her playing idol growing up.
“To see all these people who are as excited for your journey as you makes it that little but extra special,” Hammond said.
“Growing up a Collingwood supporter I loved Anthony Rocca and his big, booming kicks.”
“I’m a huge fan of his, so to see his message pop up hit me for six, but it was amazing.”
