It’s always hard to alter a winning side but North will be forced to make at least one change with Jed Anderson likely to be ruled out with a hamstring injury for the upcoming clash with the Lions at the Gabba.
Brisbane poses a much different proposition to Adelaide and showed it can be a potent scoring side after recording 100 points at Domain Stadium against the Eagles on Sunday night, meaning North’s defenders will have to be at their best again.
Have your say on potential changes below.
Defenders
While the Lions booted 15 goals in their opener against West Coast, most came from smaller types in Lewis Taylor (3), Allen Christensen (3), Tom Rockliff (2) and Daniel Rich (2), so it might be tough for key-backs Lachlan Hansen and Joel Tippett to squeeze into the side this week.
However it could open the door for a lockdown defender in Ben Jacobs who may be called on to play his first game of the year and revive the tagging role he mastered in 2015. The obvious targets for Jacobs would be the goal-kicking midfielders in Rockliff and Rich, but Brad Scott may elect to negate former Roo Ryan Bastinac who collected 23 touches on debut for Brisbane or go after damaging runner Pearce Hanley.
Aaron Mullett is also waiting in the wings after being named as an emergency and would give the Roos plenty of drive and run.
Forwards
With Waite, Petrie and Brown all playing their part, it would be difficult to see a change to North’s tall order. That means Mason Wood, Majak Daw and Aaron Black may have to wait a little longer before pulling on the royal blue and white jumper.
Anderson’s injury though, does create a spot in front of the goals and small-forward Kayne Turner could be the ideal like-for-like replacement if he’s able to shake his own hamstring concerns in time.
Impressive draftee Corey Wagner could get his chance to debut against his former academy club.
Midfielders
While North’s mids got the job done against the Crows, as mentioned already, Ben Jacobs could be brought into the mix to nullify one of the Lions’ ball winners with Rockliff, Tom Bell, Rich and Bastinac all getting plenty of the ball.
