With just two goals kicked against them in the opening fortnight of the season, North’s defenders are setting a high bar.
Tahlia Randall, Danielle Hardiman, Aileen Gilroy, Nicole Bresnehan, Sarah Wright and Jas Grierson make up the unit which has managed to keep the opposition to just nine scoring shots in two games, an impressive feat.
“Defensively we’re setting up really well,” North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' AFLW coach Darren Crocker said after Sunday's win over St Kilda.
Looking at the numbers illustrates just how unrelenting the Roos’ defenders have been; St Kilda actually had two more inside 50s on Sunday at Arden Street, in a 26-point North win.
A week earlier, North only had two more inside 50s than Geelong in a 62-point win.
“We’re just growing and getting better in that space all the time; really solid behind the football, but we can only play that way if we are also getting other aspects of our game right as well,” Crocker said.
“It’s a really pleasing aspect that we’ve only had two goals kicked against us in two weeks.”
North’s backline will be further strengthened by the addition of Jess Duffin in the coming weeks, with the 31-year-old a specialist intercept mark and strong ball-winner.
The Roos’ round three fixture is likely to be released on Monday.
