Just months into their careers at North, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Billy Hartung will debut this weekend against the Suns.
Both joined the club via the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, and have been handed the ultimate reward for their impressive pre-seasons, a Round 1 berth.
Here’s some information you should know about each of the North debutants ahead of Saturday night.
Billy Hartung:
After being delisted from Hawthorn at the end of 2017, North gave Billy Hartung a second chance when they drafted him with pick 77 in the most recent NAB AFL Draft.
Hartung managed 63 games at the Hawks, and has built a name for himself based off his blistering outside run, which makes sense given he holds the all-time ‘Beep Test’ record at the AFL Draft combine.
The 23-year-old took little time making his mark at Arden Street, claiming the honours in the pre-season ‘Yo-Yo Test’, and finishing second in the two-kilometre time trial.
The winger was rewarded for his pre-season form, named in North’s AFLX side, as well as both squads for their JLT Community Series matches.
Hartung has already shown what he can bring to North, and has fans excited about what may be to come this season.
Luke Davies-Uniacke:
Drafted with pick four in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft, Luke Davies-Uniacke has hit the ground running since he joined the club, and hasn’t put a foot wrong all pre-season.
Standing at 187cm, Davies-Uniacke was considered by draft experts as “the most complete midfielder in the pool”, a label given to him because of his height, strength, power and ability to win the ball and escape from the pack.
The 18-year-old can also move forward and impact the scoreboard, a trait which fans saw glimpses of during the JLT Community Series, when he partnered with Ben Brown deep in the goal square on occasions.
Davies-Uniacke featured in both pre-season games, which has given him a large taste of AFL football, and is sure to hold him in good stead throughout the year.
