Another week, another win for our fantasy team. We have now won 3 in a row and sit in second place – just one per cent behind Brisbane.

Like a broken record, Gary Ablett led from the front. His 122 fantasy points were matched by two others: our latest trade acquisition, Dane Swan and in-form forward Dayne Zorko. However they were all surpassed by a star Magpie in Dayne Beams, who finished with 136 points.

At the other end we had a few stragglers. Sam Gray only managed 40 points, while Mitch Hallahan (85) and Dylan Buckley (73) sat on our midfield bench. Lance Franklin put up another sub-par score of 41, while Todd Goldstein battled manfully against our other fantasy ruckman, Aaron Sandilands.

Next week’s matchup

This week we play Port Adelaide’s fan team, which sits two spots behind us in fourth. Our teams share several top liners, such as Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett, Scott Pendlebury, Jarrad McVeigh and Patrick Dangerfield.

As you might expect, their team is full of Power players with Cornes, Boak, Polec, Lobbe, Westhoff, Wingard, and Impey all on the ground. The challenge for us is that Port play GWS this week, so many of their players could be in line for a higher score than normal.

On the block

We should keep one eye on the approaching byes when trading this week. We’re in a bit of trouble come Round 8, with half of our team on a bye. We only need 18 players, but our trades this week should involve two players who aren’t available for two who are.

Aaron Mullett isn’t having the fantasy impact we thought he might, despite having a great year on field. He’s averaging the same as our gun rookie Luke McDonald, who still has some price increases left in him.

Trades

Firstly, if we move Aaron Mullett out, we will be able to get Rhyce Shaw, who has scored 100-plus in the past two weeks. He plays Brisbane this week and has an all-important Round 10 bye.

Secondly, we propose to sideways trade Nick Dal Santo or Scott Pendlebury – nothing against the pair, but both have that Round 8 bye and won’t increase significantly in value this week (we can always trade them back in). Our trade-in targets in midfield include Kane Cornes, Jobe Watson, Chad Wingard and Leigh Montagna.

We don’t really have any rookies that are prime for moving on, so the choice is yours. Either we don’t make a second trade this week or we sideways trade a star to give us cover for next week.
