It’s a little over five months until the 2021 season gets underway, but the work begins now, according to Jack Ziebell.
The North Melbourne captain pointed to a disappointing 2020 campaign, confident the players can bounce back.
“We need to put a full stop on 2020, and look forward to 2021,” Ziebell said during the Syd Barker Medal count on Wednesday night.
“2020 wasn’t up to our standards, and I think we can all take ownership for that as a playing group and a football club.
“We must make amends for that going forward. It starts tomorrow.”
Ziebell said North had the talent to turn things around quickly.
“There’s some exciting times ahead, with a new coach being appointed in the near future, and with that we’re going to have a whole new group of assistant coaches as well,” he said.
“As captain of the football club, I’m supremely confident of the talent we’ve got coming through at the moment.
“You mix that in with a few of our steely veterans, and I think we’re going to be bouncing back as a football club a lot quicker than anyone else anticipates.”
“To the boys, enjoy your time off and let’s make sure we understand that the work starts now.
“We need to make amends for last year and we’re all looking forward to doing so. Come December 7 for the first-to-four year guys, and January 6 for the older guys, we’re getting back to work to bring our club back where it belongs.”
Ziebell paid tribute to the club’s members for their unwavering support.
“To the members … your support is absolutely amazing,” he added.
“97 per cent retained membership this year shows the loyalty you have for our football club – we thank you very much for that.”
