The push-in-the-back rule was forced into the spotlight again on Saturday when North took on the Hawks.

When Michael Firrito went to ground midway through the second quarter after contact from Lance Franklin, it seemed everyone in the crowd was waiting for a whistle, but it never came.

The Hawks’ forward took the mark and strolled into an open goal, much to the ire of Roo fans.  

The Fox Footy commentators also made their feelings clear during the broadcast.

“That’s a free kick. You can’t do that. That’s the rule,” Mark Ricciuto said.
