Key defender Scott Thompson could make a return in 2013 if things go North’s way.

Director of medical services Steve Saunders says there is still hope for the 27-year old if the club makes the finals.

“We’ll keep a really close eye on him and if there’s any chance at all, we’ll certainly be keen to clear him,” Saunders told NMFC.com.au.

“We’re in constant communication with his cardiothoracic specialist and we’ll be re-scanning him at the intervals he suggests. It’s really one of those ones we’ve got to watch every week and see how it progresses.”

Despite feeling “fine”, Thompson remains under strict medical supervision to ensure he heals completely before putting his body in any danger.

“It’s really just a risk management decision around him getting another knock to the ribcage or lung tissue. There’s a certain amount of improvement the specialist would like to see before he clears him.

“It’s a matter of keeping an eye on that and seeing if he improves fast enough.”

After being ruled out for the Hawthorn clash, Leigh Adams will be available against Collingwood.

“He should have gotten over everything and be fine to play this week,” Saunders said.

Robbie Tarrant and Daniel Currie were left black and blue after their respective games but thankfully, their only worries are cosmetic.

“They’ve both got broken noses with plenty of bruising but they’ll be okay.”

Taylor Hine missed Werribee’s match against Collingwood on Saturday from pain in an old injury.

“Taylor aggravated an ankle injury which he hurt earlier in the year.  He was pushed into an awkward position in a contested tackle in the game the week prior.

“It was just enough of a concern for us to give him the week off to make sure he’s absolutely right for a full week’s training this week.”
