Rookie Tim McGenniss has been rewarded for his steady development, receiving a contract extension until the end of next season.

The 19-year old has taken on a variety of experienced AFL opponents in his first year and Saturday’s game against Collingwood in the VFL was no exception.

“Tim was opposed to Kyle Martin and really kept him under wraps,” North development coach John Lamont told NMFC.com.au after Werribee’s seven-point loss.

The young midfielder kept his opponent to just 10 possessions while racking up 18 of his own.

“It was a really good, steady, disciplined effort by Tim today.”

Ruckman Daniel Currie (20 possessions, 26 hit-outs, 5 marks) played another dominant game in the VFL, earning himself a mention in Brad Scott’s post-match media conference.

"Currie was the stand out, particularly in the first quarter,” Lamont said.

“He had big game time and did a good job on Darren Jolly and Ben Hudson. He even copped a knock to the nose and had to come off a couple of times with the blood rule. He managed to play well despite that inconvenience and all the strapping and everything.”

Skilled defender Scott McMahon (18 possessions) played a solid game in his fight to return to the senior side.

“Scott was pretty steady in defence and kept a bit of control back there. He was definitely the most experienced defender without being dominant.”

Ben Speight (17 possessions) made his return to the Tigers' senior team after a stint in the reserves.

“Ben played with speed and had a really good start to the game with 8 possessions in the first quarter.

“When you’re a rookie and you end up in the VFL development squad, you’re up against it without a doubt. He’s done it pretty tough as you’d expect but he’s come through it pretty well I reckon and you couldn’t question his attitude.

“It was very pleasing for him to come back in after five weeks and play well."

Ayden Kennedy (13 possessions) showed further glimpses of his defensive capabilities against Collingwood’s Jarrod Witts for part of the match.

“Ayden did half a dozen really good things, penetrated the game really well and took a couple of good marks early. He kept his opponents generally in check.”

Jordan Gysberts (18 possessions, 1 goal) worked hard but didn’t have as much impact as needed, while Kieran Harper finished with 10 possessions and 1 goal.

The most dominant player at Victoria Park on Saturday was North development coach Jarred Moore (37 possessions) who remains a certainty to take out the Liston Medal.
