A change is gonna come
When Darren Crocker spoke of last weekend’s loss against West Coast as being the most disappointing since he took over as coach, many at the club including the
This week at the selection table the man affectionately known as ‘Crock’ would be well within his rights to wield the axe after the Eagles looked to have out-run, out-played and out-classed the Kangaroos at Subiaco. With just two games left, the scenario could provide some familiar faces with a chance at redemption back in the senior side.
North went into Saturday’s match against the Eagles with an unchanged line-up but with Crocker’s patience tested, the chances of that happening this week against the top of the ladder St Kilda are slim at best.
Fortunately for North its VFL representatives are doing more than what’s required to earn selection in Brady Rawlings’ 200th game.
One of those in the running for a call-up is Ed Lower who collected 26 touches for North Ballarat to go with 11 clearances and nine tackles. If he does get the nod, it’ll be his first game since round 8.
Lower wasn’t the only stand-out performer for the Roosters with Aaron Edwards, Cruize Garlett, Shannon Watt and Josh Smith all doing enough to come into contention.
For Werribee, Ben Ross pushed hard to enhance his chances of making an AFL comeback with 27 touches and two goals, while the rookie listed Alan Obst was named best on ground for his efforts in the backline which yielded 18 disposals and nine marks.
Until Thursday arrives, many questions will remain. Just who will be on the chopping block? Will Daniel Harris reach his 150th? Will Scott McMahon play his 50th? Did West Coast's Matthew Priddis hurt Levi Greenwood's prospects of playing his 10th game? Which players did enough to avoid being put to the sword?
