WITH the clash guernsey debate re-ignited on the weekend, North Melbourne star Brent Harvey naturally carries the reluctance of his club to wear theirs against Collingwood in round 16.
North Melbourne has agreed to the AFL's request to forego their traditional blue and white stripes for the match against the Magpies, even though it is the Kangaroos' home game.
However, Harvey has pointed out that it's far from the players' minds – especially with another six games to play until then.
"It's not until round 16, so we haven't really thought about it too much," he said on Tuesday. "Ideally, it would be great to wear the traditional Kangaroos stripes, the North Melbourne Football Club stripes – that would be the best jumper to wear.
"But the AFL's knocked it on its head and said it's a clash jumper issue and we've got to wear our clash jumper, so that's just what we'll do."
The midfielder was also eager to have the issue remain at management level, one that should be negotiated and resolved by club president James Brayshaw and chief executive Eugene Arocca.
Arocca confirmed on Fairfax Radio on Sunday that North Melbourne would wear its clash guernsey "albeit reluctantly" rather than risk a fine.
"I think, personally, it's a little bit wrong but what sort of deal they've got going on in the background with Eugene and James, I'm sure they'll take care of that sort of stuff," Harvey said.
"I've never had an issue with it [mistaking jumpers on the field]. When I first started, there were no clash jumpers. We play in the North Melbourne guernsey and Collingwood play in the Collingwood guernsey.
"I've never had a problem with it but obviously over time there's been a few little issues and that's why we've done the clash jumpers."
When asked why the clash guernsey was now an issue, Harvey – somewhat puzzled by the interest – floated the infamous incident that involved the Kangaroos and Sydney in round six.
"I've got no idea," he said. "Why is the interchange an issue as well? It's been like that for 100 years. Why would you change it because there's one little hiccup?
"I'm not sure why it's an issue now."
