Werribee's reserves may have fallen at the final hurdle before the Grand Final, but North Melbourne's Majak Daw (12 possessions, 7 tackles, 31 hit-outs) saved his best for last.

The Sudanese-born-rookie was spectacular in the 22-point loss, earning praise from Kangaroos' development coach Jason Lappin.

"Majak had a big impact when he went into the ruck. His defensive efforts for a big man were terrific," Lappin told kangaroos.com.au.

"He pulled down a terrific park and mark and kicked a goal under pressure to pull his team to within 15 points in the third quarter."

Despite the best efforts of Daw, a Box Hill goal midway through the term broke the deadlock and the hearts of the Werribee faithful.

"We were really happy to be within two goals at the first change kicking into a strong breeze, but unfortunately we failed to make any inroads with the aid of the breeze. In the end it was really costly," Lappin added.

Matthew Scott (15 possessions, 5 clearances, 1 goal) is another rookie trying to force his way onto the senior list, and the 19 year-old was one of the Tigers' better performers.

"Scotty went head to head with the dangerous Luke George and really quelled his influence. He kicked an important goal in the third term and had his usual positive impact at the stoppages."

Ayden Kennedy (12 possessions) struggled to find the footy, but kept his opponent to just one goal for the day, while Conor Meredith (10 possessions, 8 tackles) sacrificed his own game for the team with a great stopping job on Andrew Renton.
