Andrew Swallow has used his first official captain’s address to send a simple message to his team-mates; do everything for North.

It was a theme echoed by coach Brad Scott and brought about rapturous applause at Wednesday night’s Season Launch at the Regent Theatre.

Speaking to a crowd of more than 450 supporters, sponsors and club officials, Swallow said he’ll be doing his all to help the team become an outfit opposition teams fear once again.

“To be named captain is an honour and a privilege, and I really look forward to getting the Kangaroos back to the place where they deserve to be on the ladder.

“We at North Melbourne know we have the capability to play finals, but we need to improve.

“We’ve built a really strong foundation from Utah and going in to 2012, it’s going to be the most tightly contested season of all time with the two new teams.

“We must improve our ball-use, our decision making. We need to be harder at the contest, and we need to play for each other.”

Swallow also paid tribute to club champion Brent Harvey.

“I’d like to acknowledge our previous skipper Brent Harvey. He’s still going to be around the club and although he might be small in stature, he’s left an enormous impact on the playing group and the club,” he said.

“Boomer is the ultimate professional. He leads by example, week in, week out and he does everything to the letter.

“I’m so thrilled that he is still around, as with Drew Petrie…the two guys that have been there the longest and it’s great to have them for the support they’ll be able to give me and the playing group this year.”

The number nine also spoke of how his leadership group plans to mentor the club’s up-and-comers.

“We really want to work with the guys and be able to teach them to be able to lead themselves.”

With only days until round one, Swallow had some final advice for his team ahead of the blockbuster against the Bombers.

“Boys remember, have belief in your preparation and in each other. Play with an uncompromising attitude and always think - everything for North.”
