It will be a surprise if North Melbourne makes the top eight in 2012 according to the captains of the 17 opposition clubs.

Just two leaders around the league believe the Kangaroos will be a top eight side, but it surely won’t bother Brad Scott and his team as they aim to improve on two ninth-place finishes in succession.

Collingwood, Carlton, Geelong and West Coast were the most highly rated teams among the captains, with Hawthorn, Fremantle, Sydney and Adelaide rounding out the most popular finals selections.

Magpie Scott Pendlebury has overwhelming support to claim his first Brownlow Medal, while Lance Franklin is second on the list.

The Hawthorn forward is widely tipped as the favourite for this year’s Coleman Medal, registering 14 votes from the 18 captains as the most likely to lead the goal-kicking in 2012.

Selected at pick two in last year’s National Draft, Stephen Coniglio from Greater Western Sydney is predicted as one of the hottest prospects for the NAB Rising Star award, with the Gold Coast’s Josh Caddy another popular choice.
