Departing development manager Ben Dyer believes North Melbourne is well placed to have future success, with its standalone VFL team preparing players like never before.
“It’s easier to develop our young players with the AFL system mirrored in the VFL compared to our other alignments we’ve had,” Dyer told North Media.
“Everything we do at AFL level is replicated, so it just means that when they do come in … they understand the system and it’s just easier to transition into the side.
“They’ve brought in the right type of VFL top-up players, they’ve been really good for the group.
“It’s been a good program to be a part of and it’s really going to help fastrack our kids.”
Dyer arrived at Arden St at the end of 2013 and speaks glowingly about his time. The experienced coach will head back to Western Australia for family reasons.
“It was a terrific five years,” he said
“I think the recruiters did a great job bringing in some not only talented kids in that time, but kids that are really good to work with.
“That’s the best part about being in the development area, working with kids who want to get better and that’s the case with most of them.”
