After setbacks in his last two pre-seasons, Levi Greenwood says he’s confident of having an injury free run into round one.

“When you do a whole pre-season and you go into the NAB Cup feeling fit and feeling like everyone else is feeling you’re flying, then you get an ankle injury and it puts you out for 8-10 weeks. There goes all your fitness and your pre-season,” he said on Radio Sport National on Wednesday morning.

“I’m still on the park at the moment which is always a good start. My last couple of years I haven’t been playing as much of the NAB Cup or the first part of the season so it’s great to be out with the boys.”

The 23-year old made a name for himself as a tagger in the early stages of his career, but says versatility is the key now.

“It will vary my role. I’ll be tagging, I’ll play in the midfield and hopefully play a bit in the backline as well. I’ll have more of a varied role.

“Playing as a tagger has taught me a lot, you learn so much playing on guys like Jobe Watson, Chris Judd; all the best players from each team. But I’m just happy to play anywhere and it doesn’t bother me where that is to be honest, just being out there is good enough.”

Greenwood said he and his teammates are excited by the prospect of having fellow midfielder Daniel Wells on the field this Sunday in Ballarat.

“He’s been going really well in his rehab and he’s come back strong and fit. He should make an appearance this weekend if he gets through full contact training okay.

“It will be great to have him back out there, he’s a really valuable player for us and always gives us a bit of direction.”
