NORTH Melbourne will unveil its captain on Friday, with up to four players in contention for the job.

Brent Harvey has led the Kangaroos for the past three years and signed a one-year contract extension late last season.

But the Kangaroos could relieve the 33-year-old of his captaincy duties with a view to the long term.

Jack Ziebell, 20, has been touted as a potential candidate to be the youngest captain of the club since Wayne Carey replaced Matthew Larkin as skipper in 1993.

Other more experienced candidates include Drew Petrie and Andrew Swallow.

Harvey said last week he would understand if the club chose to replace him but also said he would be keen to continue if needed.

"I'll be brutally honest, it would be great to be captain again," Harvey told SEN.

"But, in saying that, there has to be a transition phase."

The Kangaroos will confirm the appointment at 12pm on Friday.
