WELCOME back to another year of Toyota AFL Dream Team market watch, where our boffins have dusted off their calculators to bring you the early-season movers and losers.

Just as none of the 16 teams will be reading too much into their round-one performances, neither should any Dream Team coaches take their results to heart.

After all, the leagues don't start in earnest until round four, giving you plenty of time to fine tune your line-up.

Until then, the biggest dilemma confronting coaches is whether to burn a handful of trades after round three to chase some early profits.

A player's value doesn't change until they've played three games, so the results of the next fortnight will be crucial.

Dream Team speculators in search of a quick buck should heed the advice of the Pet Shop Boys and turn to WA for the best buys.

Upgraded Fremantle rookie Michael Barlow ($105,800) is set to soar in value after his stunning 128-point debut against Adelaide, while teammate Luke McPharlin ($276,800) out-performed his rating with 121 points.

Alex Silvagni (67 points, $77,800) also provided decent value while, across town, Eagles Sam Butler (113 points, $264,200) and Luke Shuey (85 points, $94,500) should appreciate considerably.

Elsewhere, prodigal Swan Tadhg Kennelly ($204,700) was a monty for thousands of savvy DT selectors and he lived up to his promise, racking up 108 points against the Saints. Teammate Nick Malceski (106 points, $242,800) also provided great bang for one's buck.

Despite playing less than two-thirds of the game, Demons rookie Jordie McKenzie (105 points, $202,700) was a prolific scorer against Hawthorn. And in that game, the Hawks received great service from Ryan Schoenmakers (94 points, $181,800).

Carlton's beanpole ruckman Robbie Warnock ($101,800) proved he was worth the wait, offering great value with 85 points.

However, at the other end of the scale, several blue-chip buys will need to pick up quickly if their investors are to avoid heavy losses.

Bulldog defender Ryan Hargrave (49 points, $409,500) had the flu as an excuse; Lions ruckman Mitch Clark (46 points, $414,800) just didn't produce the goods.

Clark's teammate Jed Adcock (30 points, $371,400) has a crook ankle and will need careful monitoring, while Swan Ben McGlynn (29 points, $373,500) and Tiger skipper Chris Newman (37 points, $349,800) underperformed.

Meanwhile, more than 32,000 coaches are nervously considering their investment in Pies ruckman Darren Jolly (34 points, $381,500), who might be doing his job for the team but failed to deliver on the DT scoreboard.

The regular Dream Team market watch leaderboard of movers and losers will resume at round four; until then, the boffins will provide their top five booms and busts for your consideration.
