Leigh Adams’ attack on the ball week in, week out is a feature of his game. Friday’s night game against Carlton was no exception.

In this edition of NMFC Playbook, three individual efforts from Adams triggered a spectacular team goal nearing quarter time.

North Melbourne has possession deep in defence. Sam Wright is forced to play on with few options downfield. Seeing space in the middle, Adams presents an option for Wright.

Wright is pressured and forced onto his left foot. The kick isn’t spot on, allowing Carlton’s Heath Scotland to make a run at the ball seemingly in prime position.

However, Adams doesn't take his eyes off the ball. Going back with the flight, his courage forces his opponent into a contest. Scotland can’t mark and the ball spills to the ground.

Adams has fallen to the ground, affording Scotland a clear path to the ball. He has captain Chris Judd free on the 50 metre arc.

With desperation, Adams manages to put enough pressure on Scotland to force his handball wide of the target. Michael Firrito takes possession and North Melbourne has the opportunity to set up.

Adams isn't done yet though. As Firrito handballs to Daniel Wells, the Blues’ Andrew McInnes runs in to lay a tackle.

Adams changes path, shepherding McInnes and allowing his team-mate a clear path. Crucially, it not only allows Wells time to work around the shepherd, he can also straighten up onto his right foot.

Seeing the chance for a quick break, Kieran Harper begins his run while Adams lays the shepherd. Wells delivers to a leading Drew Petrie, while Harper works hard to get to the front of the contest.

Petrie dishes the handball to Harper. Using his elite pace, Harper runs around Lachie Henderson and kicks the goal to put North 15-points up.
