The Werribee Tigers rebounded from its disappointing performance last week with a 21-point defeat of Box Hill Hawks at Chirnside Park on Sunday.

Werribee was looking to get their season back on track after an undisciplined performance versus Williamstown in wet and windy conditions at Burbank Oval.

With Box Hill coming off consecutive victories it was a tough ask, but the Tigers were confident of putting up a strong showing at home.

Despite the Tigers being ahead at each break, the Hawks were definitely not giving up without a fight.

"It was a pretty good positive (we won) because they did challenge us and did get a fair bit of the bell throughout the game," Tigers coach Simon Atkins said.

"At the end of the day, Box Hill's a pretty good team and coming off some good wins, I thought it wasn't going to be a blow out. They were an honest and hard opposition."

Just two goals separated the two teams at three quarter time but some determined and focused football made sure the Tigers were able to keep their strong home record intact.

North Melbourne rookie-listed player Alan Obst was a standout for the Tigers playing all over the ground, including stints in defence and in the ruck. He racked up 30 disposals, nine hit-outs and booted two handy goals.

Always reliable midfielder Flinn Chisholm (15 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 blocks, 5 spoils) did a mountain of defensive work around the packs and Atkins was impressed with his performance.

"There were a couple of blokes (from Box Hill) that we had to get hold of and Flinn was instrumental in going down back and being able to close a couple of their really damaging players," Atkins said.

Former Western Jet Steve Kennedy made his senior debut and Atkins had nothing but praise for the first-year player.

"We brought him into the team because he has got some leg speed and if there's a contest, he'll find it (the ball)," he said.

North-Melbourne listed ruckman Todd Goldstein accumulated 28 hit-outs in a test to see if he could shoulder most of the ruck load and get some disposals around the ground.

Box Hill's Tim Boyle kicked four goals and also set-up many others. Ed Curnow continued his good form and co-skipper Lukas Markovic was solid.

Former Melbourne midfielder now Hawks assistant coach Adem Yze was reported for making front-on contact with Tigers youngster Will Martinello.

In the curtain-raiser, the Werribee Reserves lost a hard fought contest 12.13.85 to 15.8.98

Ben Sharp put in another good midfield performance with 31 disposals and Travis Lunardi (28 disposals) again impressive.

North Melbourne's Irish recruit Connor Meredith was best on ground for his defensive efforts and he showed just how much he has learnt since arriving in Australia.

North Melbourne-listed forward Nathan O'Keefe and the returning Chris Hudson both kicked three goals.
