North Melbourne chairman James Brayshaw has slammed claims his club's decision to partner with World Vision Australia would limit its ability to earn external income.

The club has announced an arrangement with the organisation, which insists its partners derive no profits from the gambling industry.

"We have a partnership with World Vision because we think it's the right thing to do because of all the amazing things they do, and we're not making a stance against gambling or pokies machine income in football at all,” Brayshaw told radio station SEN.

North Melbourne gave up its poker machine licence four years ago, but Brayshaw said the club hadn't suffered financially.

"[We] don't have any issue with any club making money in any way, shape or form with each of those platforms, so to say that we do is incorrect.

"We have increased footy department spending by nearly $4 million over the last three and a half years," Brayshaw said.

"The debt has already come down by $650,000 and the debt reduction campaign is only about four months old.

"Revenue in our time has gone from $23 million to around $30 million now. I just think the whole argument is a nonsense. This football club is unrecognisable from where it was four or five years ago."

The Herald Sun reported on Tuesday that former Kangaroos directors John Nicholson and Peter de Rauch had questioned the deal.

"By us taking this stance, we are actually condemning all the other clubs for their acceptance of gaming revenue," de Rauch said.
