Jones has been in white-hot form in the VFL for North Ballarat and sits second on the competition’s goals list with 48, but hasn’t been able to break back into the North side since the round 2 match against St Kilda.
Earlier in the season, Jones struck a unique deal with Brad Scott which would see him at Arden Street on a part-time basis, giving him time to concentrate on setting up for life after football.
While Scott has refused to put a line through Jones completely, it was understood that it would take something extraordinary to see the number 21 back in the senior side.
It was no doubt a tough pill for Jones to swallow, but to his credit, he refused to give in and has trained as hard as anyone.
With Lindsay Thomas out of the side due to a knee injury, all that hard work may be about to pay off.
If Jones is named in the team on Friday afternoon, it will have a dual meaning. Not only will it be a chance for him to round out his career, but he’ll also have the chance to help his long-time team mate Brent Harvey celebrate his 300 game milestone.
Meanwhile live-wire forward Matt Campbell has also been named in the squad and could return from a calf injury while Marcus White and Jamie Macmillan will be hoping for another taste of AFL action.
