After spending the early part of the season in the VFL, Hansen looked set for a recall but was suspended for two weeks. It meant his first AFL appearance didn't arrive until Round 13 against Adelaide.

Hansen didn’t miss a game for the rest of the season and had an incredible run of ten consecutive matches without missing a shot on goal. Alongside Robbie Tarrant and Drew Petrie, he caused havoc for opposition defences and allowed the smaller forwards and rotating midfielders more room to work inside the forward 50.

Arguably his season highlight came against Essendon in Round 20. Despite being on the receiving end of a heavy head clash in the early stages, he came back on and booted three goals in North’s most courageous win of the year.
