NORTH Melbourne has decided to move its best and fairest count to mid-November to accommodate an uninterrupted six-week break for players.

The requirement is a contentious part of the new collective bargaining agreement.

Some clubs have expressed anger at the clause, insisting players should come back from their break to attend the end of year functions.

There have even been claims that moving best and fairest nights from their traditional September-October dates would destroy the culture of football clubs.

But AFL.com.au understands the Kangaroos have come to the view that it's better to take a proactive approach and move on.

The CBA is one of the agenda items to be discussed when club chief executives gather Thursday afternoon for a wide-ranging briefing from AFL bosses.

Other topics to be discussed are the Optus litigation, priority picks, free agency and the establishment of AFL Media.

Clubs are reportedly divided on the AFL's move to begin generating its own news stories through its website and other platforms - something that has usually been left to traditional media outlets.
