North Melbourne and Hall of Fame legend Barry Cable will address the Kangaroos' leadership group on Thursday in the lead-up to the clash against Carlton on Friday night.

The dual premiership winner will also walk a lap of honour with his presence exciting the likes of Brent Harvey.

'He is not only such a legend of our football club but the game itself,'' he said. ''If you have got people like that that are willing to chat, I am not sure why you wouldn't utilise them,' Harvey told The Age.

While Cable himself doesn't know what he will say to the leadership group just yet, his thoughts are simple and effective.

''It's like in every leadership group, first and foremost you lead yourself.

''That's what it is all about and the rest of the guys follow. That's why you are a leader, to give the other boys a bit of a lift.''

Harvey was also quizzed about his likely opponent in midfielder Andrew Carrazzo.

''Carrazzo has been going to the inside mids - he will probably suit Andrew Swallow a little bit more,'' he said.

''If they go after myself, Wells and Swallow, that's three tags - not many teams have three tags anymore.''

''We just have to make sure we can win the ball in close and spread really well,'' he said.

''Not only spread well but negate their outside players as well.''

The innovators of Friday night football, North Melbourne is only on the big stage once in 2012.

''I guess you have got to take it as it comes. We haven't finished in the top four for a long, long time,'' Harvey said.

''If that's the AFL's view that they want to play teams on top of the ladder or thereabouts, we haven't earned the right to play on a Friday night yet.

However with the season approaching a critical point, the importance of the four points outweighs all.

''We have to put our best step forward and get a lot of people to the game and put on a really good show and get a four-point buffer on the opposition this year."
