It was an interrupted season for Ziebell and he was unable to gain any momentum before having to take another break from the game. After missing the first two rounds due to suspension, Ziebell announced his return with a superb 27-possession, 4-goal game against Geelong in Round 3.

However a series of heavy knocks took their toll on the vice-captain and he was substituted out against Brisbane in Round 9. After the bye he was beginning to string a series of quality games together before a controversial suspension against Carlton in Round 15 which caused widespread uproar.
The subsequent four-match ban gave Ziebell the chance to head to Utah for a spontaneous training camp. Its benefits were apparent in the Elimination Final. While his teammates seemed out of legs, Ziebell went from strength to strength, collecting 30 possessions to be one of the shining lights.
