The right depth
Brad Scott has more reasons to smile on Saturday as the club's key-position depth was again highlighted in the VFL by Lachlan Hansen and co.
Hansen staked his claim for an AFL recall, kicking two goals to go with 14 possessions for Werribee. Yet to play a senior match in 2012, he'll take solace in the fact fellow versatile utility Cameron Pedersen has been given a chance to impress for North in Round 6.
Ben Warren's chances of a call-up have been strengthened further, with the hard-working forward booting four goals in the 40-point win over Coburg.
Werribee led all day and the North Melbourne number five was in the best players once again with 14 disposals and seven marks. He's now kicked 10 majors in the past fortnight and 18 for the season to sit third on the league goal-kicking list.
Scott would also be delighted with Nathan Grima's form in recent weeks as the defender continued his improvement with another good performance. Grima had 19 disposals and made a rare foray forward to boot a goal.
Rookie Malcolm Lynch responded brilliantly after a disappointing game last week and booted three majors while Ayden Kennedy also pleased the coaches during his second game with the Tigers' seniors. The 20-year old only had 12 touches, but it was his "poise with the ball" that stood out most according to Kangaroos' development Coach John Lamont.
Kennedy repelled several attacks from half-back, while Ben McKinley proved an unlikely cog in defence during the second half and finished with 16 disposals.
Sam Gibson "slogged it out in the midfield" despite not registering the numbers he's had in recent weeks and ended the game with 16 possessions and five tackles, but Ben Speight (10 disposals) was uncharacteristically quiet.
In the ruck, rookie Majak Daw got first hands on the ball regularly with more than 20 hit-outs, as well as 12 possessions and four tackles, Will Sierakowski racked up 16 possessions and Brad Mangan was solid in defence without winning a heap of the footy.
