He's only 18 years old, but Ryan Bastinac has already gone a long way towards securing a spot in the Roos' squad for round one.
The former Vic Country representative says he was happy with his first up effort and is keen for more opportunities in the near future.
"It would be awesome to get another run. It's just up to the coaches and how they think I went, but I'd love to get another run," Bastinac told kangaroos.com.au
Drafted with North Melbourne's second selection in the 2009 National Draft, the midfielder has quickly gained a reputation as a ball winner.
After racking up possessions at will in the club's intra-club matches Bastinac was able to put aside some pre-game nerves to amass 15 possessions on debut against Fremantle.
"Doing the warm up with Brent Harvey and all your idols when you were growing up, I was pretty nervous, but I just wanted to get out there and be amongst it all.
"It gave me goose bumps walking out onto the ground for the warm-up and all the supporters cheering for you, and running out through the banner, it was just awesome."
But while he's had the dream start to his short career, the youngster is aware he's got a lot of work to do in order to be able to handle the speed of the game.
"The intensity was amazing. It didn't feel like I had much time with the ball. Last year I felt like I had more time with the ball, but when you're out there you've got to make quick decisions and make the right ones.
"I just want to work on all the structures and knowing my role a bit more. I'm going to go through it with Crock (Darren Crocker) on Thursday, so I'll get a few teaching points out of the game and a lot of things to work on as well."
Bastinac is one of several young guns in line for selection for North Melbourne's clash against Hawthorn at Eureka Stadium in Ballarat on Saturday.
