The Stats That Matter
12 players finished with 20 disposals or more, only bettered by a tally of 13 in Round 3 against Greater Western Sydney.
It also threw up some interesting statistics and kangaroos.com.au takes a look at all the important numbers from the victory.
The team
- 12 players finished with 20 disposals or more, only bettered by a tally of 13 in Round 3 against the Giants. It’s a far cry from the Round 10 loss by 115-points when Daniel Wells was the only player to achieve the feat.
- A total of 429 disposals was the second-best tally of the year.
- North had 62 inside 50’s for the second time in a fortnight. It now sits second in the league with an average of 58 per game behind Hawthorn.
- Improved disposal has been a big factor in recent weeks and an efficiency level of 78% was the second-best of any team for the round, again behind the Hawks.
- The Kangaroos' win was their tenth in a row against Melbourne, dating back to 2007.
- North has been in eighth position for the past fortnight; the first time since 2008 when it spent the last seven rounds of the season in the top half.
- Despite having 92 more possessions than its opponent, North also managed 61 tackles in a sign of great defensive pressure.
Individuals
- Andrew Swallow’s 17 tackle haul was the second-highest of all time behind Jude Bolton’s 19 against the Eagles in 2011. Swallow registered 15 against the Bombers in 2010 which was equal-fifth since the statistic has been recorded. The captain has laid 127 tackles for the season, the best of any player in the AFL.
- Todd Goldstein amassed 48 hit-outs, following up from 47 last week. He now sits third in the league for hit-outs.
- Brent Harvey’s 90% disposal efficiency was particularly impressive given he gathered 30 disposals. Ben Cunnington had 26 possessions at 88%, though 21 were handballs.
- Harvey stepped out onto the field for the 340th time on Saturday, putting him alongside Andrew McLeod in 14th of all time. He will equal Chris Grant’s 341-game tally against the Bulldogs.
- Harvey kicked his 400th career goal and sits sixth on the Roos’ all-time list behind Wayne Carey (671), John Longmire (511), Jock Spencer (475), Malcolm Blight (444) and Sel Murray (411). It’s a great effort considering how much time he’s spent on the ball since his debut in 1996.
- Sam Gibson’s 36 possession effort was the best of his short career, and he also pumped the ball inside 50 on 10 occasions. His 31 uncontested possessions was the highest tally of the round and of any player in the league since Round 15.
- Drew Petrie’s 4 goals means he’s kicked 22 in the last five rounds. Perhaps more impressive is the fact he’s kicked just 1 behind in that time. He is equal second in the race for the Coleman Medal on 47 with Lance Franklin leading on 51.
- Matt Campbell has been labelled a ‘super sub’ in recent weeks and with good reason. He had 11 disposals, backing up from 8 against Richmond and 7 against Carlton. When you consider he’s averaged just 28% game time in the past three rounds, his impact is profound.
