It’s news that will be music to the ears of every North Melbourne fan; Todd Goldstein has signed a contract extension.
He’s only played 58 games, but his signature will go a long way to securing North Melbourne some serious success in the coming years.
With rumours circulating about a possible raid from Greater Western Sydney, the talented young ruckman has committed to the Kangaroos until the end of the 2014 season.
Speaking to the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark, Goldstein said he was delighted to extend terms well before his deal expired at the end of the season and help lead the club's finals push.
"The club is going in the right direction and hopefully the results will follow suit," Goldstein said.
"With the talent we've got and Brad (Scott) at the helm, things are looking good. We're giving ourselves the best opportunity to succeed and I'm definitely backing this group.
"I would have thought coming off two ninth-placed finishes, a lot of players haven't played a finals game. I know I'm itching to get in there to experience it and see what we can do when we get in there."
Drafted with pick 37 in 2006, the 201 centimetre agile big-man said he was relieved to avoid the speculation about his future that dogged other players like Tom Scully.
"It's good to get rid of the speculation and not have to worry about it coming into the season," he said.
"Last year with Gold Coast and now GWS, it really can become a bit of a circus and absorb everyone and take the team's focus away, so I'm glad to get something done early."
With the return of Hamish McIntosh to the side, North could be a force around the stoppages.
"We showed last year in the final round and the year before that we do have the opportunity to become a good team and within the team itself and to push this side along," Goldstein commented.
"We've got different bits and pieces we bring to the table to help the side in different ways. Hopefully we get 22 games together and see some rewards from it."
North Melbourne list manager Cameron Joyce said Goldstein's commitment continued a string of key signings for the club.
Goldstein now has two reasons to celebrate with news he and partner Kirsty are expecting their second child.
