Gary Ablett expects a much better effort from his team following last week’s disappointing 95-point loss to St Kilda.

"We didn't go out there and play for each other. We had focus areas we didn't do too well and they'll be the same focus areas this week. We've just got to do those things better and play as a team," Ablett said.

The Suns’ captain declared Saturday night’s match against North Melbourne as 'a great opportunity', but was also wary of how the Roos would react to its recent defeat.

"The great thing is we can move on from last week, against North Melbourne. They haven't been in great form but I'm sure they're going to come out firing and want to play well."

Michael Rischitelli and Jared Brennan are two senior Gold Coast players who have endured disappointing seasons but Ablett backed them to improve.

"He (Rischitelli) had a bit of an injury (ankle) early in the year and I'm sure a few games he's gone into not 100 per cent fit, but I don’t think too many guys go in fully fit.

"I think he's played an important role for us this year but I'm sure he'd like to get more of the ball and that's something he'll focus on going forward."

On the other hand, Brennan was exiled to the Gold Coast reserves after the Round 7 defeat against the Western Bulldogs. He returned strongly last week despite the senior side's heavy loss.

"Jarz does some special stuff, which is fantastic, but at times we felt he lost a bit of concentration and lost the structures," Ablett added.

"He has to play numerous roles for us, which is important to the side but it can be difficult for him at times when he's chopping and changing but it's the best thing for the team and Jarz knows that."
