The community award is named after Scanlon due to his unrivalled generosity to both North Melbourne and the wider community.
The winner is adjudged to be a player who has exemplified the spirit of giving, often going the extra mile on numerous occasions, without recognition and never expecting fanfare.
As an example, earlier this year when a four year old boy named Zavier ended up in the Children's Hospital with cancer, McMahon visited a number of times. He also organised a signed jumper from the team and followed up by inviting the family to Aegis Park to watch training.
McMahon has kept in touch ever since.
