He’s one of the league’s emerging defenders, but Aaron Mullett’s talents aren’t limited to the back half.  A classy finish in front of the big sticks was one of the highlights of Sunday’s match against the Lions and the Rising Star is now in the running for the British Paints Goal of the Year.

Mullett received a handball from Leigh Adams across half-back during the last quarter against Brisbane, broke away from two opponents, took four bounces and slotted a goal in style to bring the home crowd to its feet.

“I think they (the Lions’ opponents) thought I was going to kick it so they sort of let me go,” Mullett told NMFC.com.au after the match.

“The forwards did a good job and peeled away so I just took the space and went on and kicked the goal. I was knackered after that, I needed to come off.”

The 21-year old has been one of the stories of the season so far with his class and skill across half-back and will be looking to continue his good form going into the clash with the Hawks.
